You've been injured at work, and your employer should provide workers compensation as required by law. Workers compensation is dispensed to employees who are injured on the ob to help them pay for medical bills and recoup lost work wages.

Will you get workers compensation insurance for your work-related injury? Probably, but you need to make sure you do the right things in order to get it. Here are ways you can make your chances of getting workers compensation more likely.

You have witnesses

Did anyone else see you get hurt at work? Having a witness to support your claim of your work injury gives you greater credibility and makes it harder for your employer to deny your claim. When you file an incident report at work (which should be done as soon as possible), make sure any witnesses are listed. Get their reports too if you can.

You filed paperwork

You must file a workers compensation claim in order to receive the benefits. This claim is not the same as your incident or medical report that you file with your boss. You should follow up with your employer to make sure they submitted similar paperwork as well or else your claim can get stalled. You can face workers compensation denial if you don't file all the paperwork correctly or on time.

Note: in some cases it's best to hire a lawyer to help you with your workers compensation claim, especially if your employer is balking at doing their part to give you the funds you deserve.

You were being safe

If you were following your company's safety protocol and wearing appropriate safety gear, clothing, and shoes when you got injured, you are showing that you were acting responsibly when you got injured. If you are injured off the job site or your employer can somehow prove you were negligent or inebriated while on the job, your claim may get denied.

Other employees got hurt

Did your workplace injury involve just you, or other employees as well? If multiple people were injured in the same incident, then the accident can be given greater priority by your employer, who will not want to stall any workers compensation claims to avoid being sued. Check with your lawyer to see if you need to take extra precautions as you file your claim, especially if your boss is threatening to fire or lay you off due to your injury.
